Mavis X Zeref The Olden Days: Part 1
A smooth melody flowed out of the alarm clock. It stopped quickly when a delicate hand pressed a button on the top putting it to sleep. A young girl sat up stretching her arms up into the air. She let out a yawn and looked out her window. The sun was shining a radiant yellow and blue birds flew high in the sky. Mavis carefully moved the blanket off of her and stood up on the hard wood floor. She skipped over to her closet and pulled out a summer dress. She slid it on and put her hair up in a high ponytail. She examined herself in the mirror making sure that she looked perfect for her first day of school. She was attending a new school for young girls.
Mavis looked at the time and noticed that she was going to be late. She sprinted out of her room grabbing her shoes and backpack. Then she ran out of her apartment and continued sprinting down the streets of Magnolia towards the school. While Mavis was squirming between people she ran into a boy about her age, 13. He had black hair and red eyes. He was wearing a white and black striped t-shirt with cargo shorts.
“I’m so sorry, I’m just in a hurry to get to school and I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going a-and I ran into you! I’m sorry,” Mavis babbled on as she helped the boy up. He looked at her blankly with no expression. Mavis noticed and said, “My name is Mavis! What’s yours?”
“My name is Zeref,” he said in a quiet voice.
“That’s a neat name! Well, where are you headed, Zeref,” she asked trying to start a conversation.
“Weren’t you in a hurry to get somewhere,” Zeref asked. She gasped, “Yes! Sorry to run but I don’t want to be late,” she said with a smile.
Zeref blushed and waved a shy good bye. “What was with that girl,” he thought to himself. He kicked a rock off of the sidewalk. He was heading to a new magic school for boys, but he didn’t care if he was late. He hated school even if he was learning about magic. He kicked another rock that was much bigger stubbing his toe. He grabbed his foot and hopped up and down trying to keep his balance. He let out a growl. He picked up the rock and threw it out of anger, “Stupid rocks!!!”
I stepped into my classroom just before the bell rang. My teacher scowled at me and pointed to my seat. Without any hesitation I sat down, not wanting to get in trouble on the first day. My teacher picked up a piece of chalk and began writing her name.
“My name is Ms. Koda and I will be your first period class teacher,” she said in a cheerful voice. “Now I’m going to need to learn your names one by one,” she said walking to each desk introducing herself and talking to students getting to know them.
I turned around to see my friend Asami. I jerked back not knowing that she was there. She giggled and smiled at me, “So, why were you late,” she questioned me raising an eyebrow.
“Hey I wasn’t late! I was almost late!!”
“Ok why were you almost late then?”
“I woke up late and then I might of ran into a boy,” she mumbled.
“What was that last part? I couldn’t hear because you were mumbling,” she raised her voice.
.“I ran into a boy, but it’s not like I know him or like him,” she said defending herself. Her friend gasped putting her hand over her mouth. She stared at Mavis and raised her eyebrow almost involuntarily.
“Hello, what is your name,” Ms. Koda asked Mavis. Mavis turned around facing her.
“Good morning,” she smiled politely,” my name is Mavis! I’m super excited to have you as my teacher!”
“Oh well that’s a lovely name. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself,” Ms. Koda said.
“Ok I’m 13, my favorite color is pink, I love animals, I want to start a guild when I get older, and I want to be a powerful wizard,” Mavis smiled.
“Wonderful, it was nice meeting you,” Ms. Koda said moving towards the next desk.
“When is this day gonna be over?” I stared out the window wishing that I could be free like the birds outside instead of stuck in this dumb school! My teacher, Mr. Tajima was rambling on and on about the rules of the school. Like if he sees any littering you will get detention, if you are late to class more than three times you get detention, no running in the halls, be safe respectful and responsible, etc.
The bell rang and I jumped out of my seat and ran to my locker to get out of this place. I grabbed my bag and slammed the locker door shut. I walked the same route that he did before. I looked down at the sidewalk kicking rocks looking at my feet. I jumped when I heard yelling behind me.
“Hey, Zeref! It’s me, Mavis,” I looked back and saw that girl running towards me. She finally caught up with me. “Hey how was your day,” she asked panting. I stared at her. “What is with her,” i thought to myself.
“It was bad,” I said,” I don’t like school.” She gasped,” What do you mean you don’t like school?”
“I don’t like school. It’s boring and a waste of time.”
“Oh well everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” she shrugged.
We walked past a gray building and Mavis stopped walking. “Well, this is me,” she said smiling,” See you tomorrow! Hopefully we can walk to school together again! Bye,” she said giving him a hug. I awkwardly stood there in shock and I could feel my heart beating out of my chest. “What was this feeling,” I thought. All I knew is that whatever it was, I liked it.
